Form Over Flash: Prada’s Minimalist Masterclass

An impressive 57 looks were shown Sunday afternoon at the Fondazione Prada near Porta Romana for Milan Men’s Fashion Week. The newly acquired space was used solely as a display area, devoid of any decoration apart from a selection of  colorful throw rugs, deliberately kept bare to highlight the strong collection.

The decision to stage the show in such a pared-back setting emphasized Prada’s ongoing dialogue between form and function. The absence of elaborate staging or visual distractions made room for quiet contemplation – a reminder that, in a world of fashion spectacle, substance still reigns supreme at Prada. The dynamic between the industrial venue and the colorful, often playful clothes created a tension that elevated both.

True to form, this season’s collection let refined elegance speak for itself. Miu Miu’s influence could be seen right from the start as the first look paired a baby blue turtleneck underneath a boxy short-sleeved button down while debuting the new elastic hemmed bloomer short shorts – a potential new staple in every Prada’s girls summer wardrobe.

Leather versatility was put to the test as models walked the runway in leather jackets and flip flops. Doing what Prada does best, the collection showcased the many ways layering elevates even the simplest looks, while maintaining a chic and polished finish. Setting the colour trends for the upcoming season, the collection found cohesion in primary colours, with the exception of an occasional pastel blue or pink.

Solid colour knits paired with tailored trousers remained the constant of the collection, while bright green and red patent leather jackets proved that paired with the right outfit, a brave colour choice can still suit the chic Italian style that inspires many of our wardrobes. Accessories this season challenged the minimalist outfits they accompanied by sporting an outdoorsy take on the well known nylon backpack with cone shaped hats covered in fringe adding a playful touch to the poised looks.

Altogether, the collection reaffirmed Prada’s mastery in blending innovation with timeless style. With bold color statements, experimental silhouettes, and refined tailoring, the show offered a confident vision for the season ahead – effortlessly balancing practicality with high fashion. In a space stripped of excess, the clothes did all the talking, and they spoke volumes.
